In 1984, John and Maureen, who were then living in Waramanga, purchased a vacant block of land in Oxley. As builders, they were intent on
developing the house of their dreams.
With a simple floor plan sketched on the back of an envelope by Maureen, John worked with his long-time friend and draftsman to design a house that captured all of their ideas, worked with the slope of the block and took advantage of the breathtaking view of the valley; at the time being nothing more than fields of grass.
Over the following year, John worked full time to build the house, enrolling help from the family on weekends and school holidays; an experience their (then) 16 year old daughter and 12 year old son cherish to this day.
